Bridge Training

"Passing durable climate legislation requires building relationships with people who think differently than you. BRIDGE gives you evidence-based skills to have those conversations — and turn them into opportunities for change." - CCL Website

Who We Are

Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a non-profit and non-partisan organization that advocates in multiple ways for national legislation supporting climate solutions. Citizens’ Climate Education, sister organization of Citizens’ Climate Lobby, is a non-profit and non-partisan organization that provides educational outreach and resources on climate change and climate change solutions. We are national in scope, with members and local chapters in every state. We have 11 chapters in Colorado and a strong state leadership team. Our local Pikes Peak chapter provides opportunities for members to engage in advocacy through our CCL lobbying program, and also to be involved in our CCE educational programing, such as climate conversation events.

What We Do

Citizens' Climate Lobby’s main goal is to advocate with Congress and the President for the passage of effective legislation to address climate change. Our national organization uses scientists, economists, business analysts and other knowledgeable people to identify the policy solutions most likely to reduce atmospheric greenhouse gases sufficiently to avoid the worst impacts of global climate change. They also identify solutions that are fair for families and good for the economy.

Based on this analysis, our areas of focus include working towards a price on carbon, supporting healthy forests, building electrification and efficiency, and clean energy permitting reform.

Why We Do It

Our members have various reasons for working on climate solutions. The ones we hear most often are that they see obvious and big changes in the world now, like devastating wildfires, extreme weather, and extraordinary drought, that threaten our health, personal safety, economic security and way of life. They care deeply about their children and grandchildren, or other younger family members. They don’t ignore or rationalize away the obvious trends and risks. They know that solutions exist, and it’s just a matter of working together to implement the solutions now.

How We Do It

Our elected representatives and their staff tell us that they listen to constituents and desire constructive constituent input on climate change solutions. So, with research, resources and guidance from national CCL and CCE we engage directly with our elected officials in Congress, and ask our business leaders, neighbors, friends and family members to help. We have citizen lobbying teams that meet regularly with our Senators and Congresspeople and their staff. We participate in highly effective and focused email and telephone calling campaigns. We write letters to the editor and guest editorials in local and national newspapers. We use social media.

We also carry out our educational program in the community and statewide with CCE support and resources. We host in-person and online events with speakers on a range of climate topics. We sponsor tables at community events where we have conversations with people in our community about climate and climate solutions. We provide resources to people that they can use to learn more about climate change and the policies and technologies that help solve climate change.

Each month, we have a regular chapter meeting, where we discuss topics related to our advocacy and educational activities and also educational topics related to climate and climate solutions, including pending legislation and focused actions we can take, together or as individuals. Our meetings provide a place where people of all backgrounds can come together, feel welcome, build relationships, and take away a feeling of optimism and hope. Contact us if you want to learn more about how you can join us and help.
